It’s here, it’s here! 365 New chances to reach and achieve goals, set new ones and to do it better! As I mentioned before, I am not really one for new year resolutions, but there are some quotes that I find particular encouraging that I would like to share with you. It always helps to keep a dose of inspiration close by, especially when Positivity is running low and you need a pick-me-up. Here they are:
#1 “Do what you love, love what you do” – Unknown
Everyday when I wake up, I remind myself how blessed I am to have created a living out of my passion. For as long as I can remember I have been my own boss, and I just cannot imagine having to schlep through a 9-5 routine in a job that just doesn’t resonate with me.
You spend more time at your job than what you do with family, friends or even yourself – you DESERVE to do something that you love! I know it is not easy, everybody has commitments, wherever they are financial or personal, which brings me to my next quote:
#2 “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there” – Theodore Roosevelt
Believing in yourself is the foundation to success. If you don’t believe in yourself, you are limiting your opportunities to learn and become successful. If you strongly believe in yourself, it means that you are confident about something and know that it is true and that it will happen.
#3 “Beautiful things happen when you distance yourself from the negative” – Power of Positivity
Negativity is an ugly beast and I always attempt to distance myself from it as far as possible. I find simple things like my Facebook Feed has a huge influence on my positive vibes so I made a point of unliking and unfollowing pages and people that repeatedly post gloomy content. Instead of armed robberies and hijackings, my newsfeed is filled with feel-good feeds and (maybe too many) cute kitty posts. One of the pages that I absolutely adore is The Power of Positivity – check out their FB for your daily dose of inspiration – you will love it!
#4 “If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn to do it later” – Sir Richard Branson
Most of you know that I have huge admiration for Richard Branson, so no surprise here 😉 I am sure that I start at least five sentences a day with ” Richard Branson says…..” I have read all his books and he has said a ton of inspirational things, but the one that stuck with me the most is this one. Just take a minute to think about it – how many opportunities have you said no to because you did not know if you could do it? (Translated: Believed in yourself)
I can give you a great example from personal experience: A while ago, just three days before the well known teen phenomenon One Direction concerts in South Africa, I received a phone call from the group’s marketing company in the UK. They had a fantastic opportunity for a brand that the Band’s fans can associate with and they thought NailCandi to be a great fit. All they needed from me was a 15 second promotional video within 72 hours. Time was off the essence and I immediately started looking for a company that could pull this off in such a short time. It was nearly impossible to get it done in time in South Africa, and eventually I found a company in the USA that could do it for me for almost R300 000.00 Immediately being put off by this large sum I started doubting myself and instead of focusing on finding a solution, I was obsessing about the money. I came to the conclusion that this opportunity is out of my reach, and without trying, I gave up on what could’ve been one of the biggest advertising moments for my company. Needless to say the opportunity was snapped up by a well-known international cosmetics company that already had video material available and of course reaped huge rewards from it. It was barely a week later that I discovered Fiverr.com – a website where freelancers offer all kinds of business services starting at a mere 5$. I could’ve had my video made in 24 hours for less than 25 dollars… Instead I missed out on one of the biggest opportunities I’ve had, because I did not believe in myself, I gave up and I did not try hard enough to find a way to do it. On the bright side, I work with designers on Fiverr.com on a daily basis now – it is a valuable resource for my business – go and check it out!
#5 “If you don’t ask, the answer will always be NO” – Female Entrepreneur Assocation
This one is pretty self-explanatory. All you have to do is ask, if you don’t, you will never know! Just think of what you could miss out on if you don’t put yourself out there and ask for what you want? I love this quote and I got the picture from Female Entrepreneur Association – I strongly recommend that you follow her page, her feed is filled with inspirational quotes and business tips.
#6 “Life is better when you’re laughing” -Unknown
It is, try it! Put a smile on your face and do what you do with kindness, and you will see it come back to you in 10 fold! If you have an extra minute, read this article on why laughter is the best medicine.
